About Us

Changes in Latitude Yacht Charters started as a dream for the couple David and Janice Walters. For years, almost every weekend and some weekdays, from April to October they hosted family and friends on their boat on Lake Norman in North Carolina. They were also very fortunate to be able to go sailing in the Virgin Islands on several occasions. Boating was a passion for both of them and they enjoyed sharing it. One day they got the opportunity for David to leave his stressful corporate job and Janice to pause her home accents business and move to the Virgin Islands to crew charter boats. Needless to say, they jumped at the chance to live full time on a gorgeous yacht and share their passion with even more people…who all became fast friends.

 

The time they spent crewing charter boats was priceless and they enjoyed every moment of it! Their plan was to crew for a few years or until grandchildren came along, then come home and start a charter brokerage. Well, you know what they say about best-laid plans…they don’t end the way you want. David, while sailing into Anegada on charter, suddenly passed away from a heart attack and Janice was left in a state of shock, not knowing what to do next. She continued to substitute crew for awhile, but it just wasn’t the same without David. With the support of her amazing family, she decided to move forward with hers and David’s plan and started Changes in Latitude Yacht Charters. David loved playing Jimmy Buffet while on charter, so it just seemed like the best name.

 

Today Janice is enjoying every moment of this experience and still loves to share her passion for boating by finding the best boat for her client’s charter.
